"The only discipline that lasts is self-discipline." Bum Phillips

It is very important to have guidelines and rules in place.  This gives the child a sense of security.  Discipline is about more than rules, however.  It is the right blend of love, encouragement, and motivation with an understanding that a child is a person in progress and it may take some consequences to help with the growth process. Whether it is positive or negative discipline, it must be done in love and concern if we hope to produce change!

It is our goal to begin at an early age to teach the rewards that are gained from concern for others, not the consequences that result from lack of concern for others.  Unfortunately, for most children it takes both positive and negative responses over a period of time before self-discipline conquers and outward reward or consequence become superfluous to motivating good behavior!
